Improving Business Effectiveness with GIS – Recommendations and Best Practices for Water Utilities
A Talk by Brian Bell (Director, Utilities, Esri Canada)
About this Talk
GIS has been adopted in some form or another by virtually every water utility in North America. That said, the success and benefits those utilities are realizing from their investments in GIS vary widely, for many different reasons. As city councils and utility boards scrutinize investment plans and the effectiveness of previous spends, it is critical that water utilities learn from the experiences of their peers to draw out as much value as possible when using GIS. Compounding this pressure, water utilities across Ontario and North America are also facing new requirements, opportunities and challenges, many of which are arriving as part of broad visions and corporate objectives aligned with themes such as Network Modernization, Digital Transformation or Smart Water. In this session Brian will help you understand this current situation, provide suggestions for how you can determine your own organization’s maturity as it relates to leveraging GIS, and share real world examples and best practices from other water utilities that you can apply to your business.
